Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTSerbian state-owned utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) on Thursday signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) and balancing agreements for two solar projects totalling 16.99 MW that won market premiums in Serbia’s inaugural renewables auction in 2023.
The projects, B2 Nova Sun and B2 Sunspot, are the first two auction winners in the solar category to sign PPAs with EPS, the utility said in Thursday’s press release.
Both of these projects secured a price of EUR 89.7 (USD 96.7) per MWh to provide a combined total of 13.6 MW, according to the final ranking of bids for solar.
The B2 Nova Sun solar farm, of 9.99 MW, is located in the village of Nova Crnja, while the 7-MW B2 Sunspot is parked in the neighbouring municipality of Kikinda, northern Serbia.
Construction of both plants is well underway. Milos Kostic, director of the companies B2 Nova Sun and B2 Sunspot, said that the pair will be ready for testing in May.
Solar contractor MT-Komex, a business also led by Kostic, is in charge of the turnkey delivery of the plants. MT-Komex last year commissioned the 9.9-MW Delasol solar farm in Serbia.
Once in operation, B2 Nova Sun and B2 Sunspot will generate a total of 25 GWh of electricity per year, said Kostic.
David Zarkovic, executive director for power portfolio management at EPS, added: “With the investors who participated in the auctions and other independent producers in Serbia, we already have more than 1 GW of installed capacity from renewable sources, and that is more than 10% of production capacity in Serbia. With slightly more than 30% of EPS production from the hydro sector, we are already rapidly approaching 50% production from renewable energy sources.”
