Sharp Energy Solutions Corporation (SESJ), part of Sharp Corp (TYO:6753), announced today the completion of a 16.4-MW direct current (DC) solar power plant in Mongolia.

The company worked on the photovoltaic (PV) project together with Thailand's Sermsang Power Corp and other partners through Tenuun Gerel Construction LLC. The scheme was supported by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment through a financial credit programme and it also received financing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Leading Asia’s Private Infrastructure Fund (LEAP).

Located in Tov Province, the solar park is expected to be generating 23,134 MWh of electricity per year, enough to offset the equivalent of 18,438 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. It will supply clean power to urban parts of the capital Ulaanbaatar and to the New Ulaanbaatar International Airport, currently under construction, Sharp pointed out.

With the completion of this solar farm, the Mongolian government is getting a step closer to its goal of sourcing from renewables 30% of the country's power by 2030.
