Siemens Gamesa, the wind turbine business of Siemens Energy AG (ETR:ENR) has launched initial production at its expanded offshore wind turbine nacelle factory in Taichung, Taiwan.

The enlarged manufacturing site was inaugurated on Thursday, during the first visit to the Asia-Pacific region of Vinod Philip, executive board member of Siemens Energy, in his new role overseeing Siemens Gamesa's wind power business.

The factory will produce the SG 14-222 DD direct-drive turbine nacelles. It was expanded as part of Siemens Gamesa’s commitment to equip and service the 1,044-MW Hai Long offshore wind cluster in Taiwanese waters. The complex of three wind farms will use a total of 73 of the 14-MW machines.

Manufacturing at the Taichung plant commenced in the summer of 2021. Siemens Gamesa started construction works to expand the facility in September 2022 to provide space for dedicated production lines for hub assembly, nacelle backend assembly and final nacelle assembly, including generator-related work.
