A wind turbine by Siemens Gamesa at the 434-MW Santo Agostinho complex in Brazil's Rio Grande do Norte state, owned by power utility Engie Brasil Energia SA (BVMF:EGIE3), broke last week, the local media reported.

The 6.2-MW equipment was recently commissioned and there were no injuries. According to reports by Reuters and news platform TC Mover, both companies are conducting a joint investigation into the matter.

With a BRL-2.3-billion investment (USD 467.84m/EUR 429.68m), Santo Agostinho consists of 70 wind turbines.

Siemens Gamesa said in a note sent to Reuters that until the analysis is completed, they cannot speculate on the cause of the incident. Engie added that it is preventively conducting detailed assessments on 13 turbines in operation and another five under commissioning.

This incident comes a few days after Siemens Energy announced that costs related to product quality issues at Siemens Gamesa could exceed EUR 1 billion (USD 1.08bn).
