German engineering major Siemens AG (ETR:SIE) said on Wednesday it has secured a contract to deliver equipment for two biomass projects in the US state of Georgia, owned by Georgia Renewable Power LLC.

The deal has been awarded by infrastructure construction group MasTec Inc’s (NYSE:MTZ) unit MasTec Power Corp, which is serving as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the projects. The particular biomass plants, namely the Georgia Renewable – Franklin LLC in Carnesville and Georgia Renewable – Madison LLC in Colbert, are expected to become operational next summer.

As part of the contract, Siemens will supply SST-600 steam turbines, SGen-100A air-cooled generators and three-phase step-up transformers for the plants. In addition, the German firm will provide its SPPA-T3000 control system to boost the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the two facilities, it said.

The biomass power plants will be capable of generating enough electricity to supply about 120,000 households.
