Siemens to deliver up to 580 MW of wind turbines for Swedish projects

(ADPnews) - Jun 30, 2011 - German engineering group Siemens (ETR:SIE) said today it has signed a framework agreement to deliver up to 253 wind turbines with a total capacity of 580 MW for onshore wind farms in Sweden.

Siemens Energy signed the agreement with Statkraft SCA Vind AB (SSVAB), a subsidiary of Norwegian state-owned electricity provider Statkraft. The first firm order under the contract involves 37 direct-drive turbines with a capacity of 2.3 MW each, which will be installed and commissioned in 2013. This is also the first order for Siemens' new gearless SWT-2.3-113 turbine designed for low to moderate wind speeds.

In total, Siemens will provide up to 213 direct-drive turbines and 40 turbines with gearboxes, all of which are rated at 2.3 MW. Deliveries will be made until the autumn of 2014.

Siemens said it has so far installed 220 MW of wind power capacity in Sweden.
