Siemens Energy AG (ETR:ENR) has been contracted to supply and install the electrolysers needed for the 100-MW Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub (HGHH) to be built at the site of a decommissioned coal-fired power station in the Moorburg district.

The order is for six units of Siemens Energy’s latest proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser model. The stacks will be fabricated at the company’s new Gigafactory in Berlin and assembled at its Muhlheim site and at a European partner.

In addition to supply and installation, Siemens Energy will also provide maintenance services under a 10-year agreement, a press statement says.

Construction works are set to start in 2025, while the commissioning is expected in 2027.

HGHH is being developed by a consortium comprising German renewable energy asset manager Luxcara GmbH and local utility Hamburger Energiewerke. Once operational, it will produce about 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.

The project was awarded funding under the IPCEI Hy2Infra package that was approved by the European Commission (EC) in February.
