Singapore-based Gstar plans to build a 2-GW solar module factory in the UAE in a move marking its expansion into the Middle East.

The solar equipment producer has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a consortium led by UAE-based diversified investment company Siraj Group.

The solar module manufacturing project will be centred on high-efficiency N-type technology, Gstar said last week.

Gstar will collaborate with Siraj Group, along with Galaxico and Stark Consulting, as part of the consortium to advance this initiative, with construction set to begin in November.

Gstar's decision to enter the UAE is based on the Gulf country's ambitions and the solar energy potential of the whole region. Infolink statistics indicate that the photovoltaic market in the Middle East is projected to experience consistent growth, with demand possibly reaching between 29-35 GW by 2027.

Founded in 2019, Gstar specialises in the manufacturing of PV materials and the service of PV systems. In 2022, it opened a plant in Thailand with fully automatic module production lines and equipment.
