SkyPower Global said on Thursday it will develop 200 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) power projects in the Republic of Djibouti over the next four years for a total cost of USD 440 million (EUR 393m).

The Canada-based company has signed an agreement for the project with the government of the African country. Its plan is to implement the scheme in four phases. The total value of the project includes USD 11 million worth of corporate social responsibility investments to be directed towards local education, training and research and development (R&D) initiatives.

"SkyPower's commitment will reduce Djibouti's dependence on energy imports and significantly increase local power generation capacity," said Charles Cohen, executive vice president of SkyPower.

Also on Thursday, SkyPower announced the signing of a long-term offtake contract for 150 MW of utility-scale solar power plants in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
