Slovenia's DEM to build 2 mln euro ($2.3 mln) solar plant

Slovenian hydro power producer Dravske Elektrarne Maribor (DEM), a unit of state-owned electricity producer and trader Holding Slovenske Elektrarne (HSE), said it will start building next week a solar power plant worth more than 2 million euro ($2.3 million).

Some 6,000 photovoltaic modules are to be installed for a total rated output of some 2.7 Mwp and expected annual electricity production of 3,000 MWh, DEM said in a statement on its website on Wednesday.

The solar power plant will be located on the left bank of a discharge water canal at Slovenia's largest hydro power plant, Zlatolicje, in the northeastern part of the country.

The slope of the terrain, which in some places exceeds 30 degrees, poses challenges for the contractor, TZ Velenje, which is also part of the HSE Group, DEM noted.

The solar plant is part of a project for a power plant with total rated output of some 30Mwp and expected annual electricity production of 37,000 MWh that will be built at Zlatolicje in the next few years.
