Planted Solar, which has developed a rapid solar deployment platform, announced on Monday its emergence from stealth mode with the closing of a USD-20-million (EUR 18.6m) funding round and an 11-MW partnership with US distributed solar and storage project developer Cultivate Power.

Planted Solar designs and builds flexible, all-terrain and high-density solar power plants using development software and construction robots.

The Oakland, California-based company has entered into a partnership with Cultivate to deliver 11 MW of community solar developments in the Chicago area. The collaboration is aimed at lowering Cultivate projects’ footprint, unlocking previously unattainable financial value and reducing construction complexity, a press statement said.

In addition to the partnership, Planted Solar announced the closing of a Series A fundraising round backed by Breakthrough Energy Ventures (BEV) and Khosla Ventures. Coupled with the recently announced USD-1.6-million award from the US Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO), the fresh capital will support the commercial launch and scale-up of the company’s solar power deployment product.
