Sep 19, 2024 9:29 CESTSolar farms in Brazil's Northeast region reached two new regional generation records on June 28 and June 29, hitting 9,598 MW and 9,760 MW, respectively, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has announced.
According to data from the National Electric System Operator (ONS), the record of 9,760 MW corresponds to 84.5% of the region's energy demand at that time. The previous record high was registered on May 13.
Since the beginning of the year, the country's solar parks have broken a total of eight new records, six happened on the Northeast grid alone.
In 2024, Brazil's total electricity generation capacity grew by 7,946 MW and solar photovoltaic (PV) plants, including distributed generation (DG) systems, accounted for 73.5% of the total.
MME noted that, as per the national power sector regulator Aneel, Brazil has 43.6 GW of installed solar capacity.
