A record 981 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in Latin America entered the construction phase in the second quarter of 2015, GTM Research says.

Most of these projects are in Chile, according to company’s Q2 2015 Latin America PV Playbook released earlier this week. About 54 MW and 20 MW of solar capacity is under construction in Mexico and in Jamaica, respectively.

Latin America’s utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity grew by 363 MW in the second quarter. This time, Honduras was the leader with 307 MW of newly commissioned parks. Chila ranked second with 29 MW and Panama was third with 12 MW. Brazil installed 11 MW and Venezuela and Antigua both connected their first utility-scale PV plants.

GTM Research expects that utility-scale farms will account for 92% of the 2.3 GW of solar installations in Latin America for 2015.
