Solar firms create most jobs in German renewable energy sector

Mar 27, 2012 - Solar power and technology firms are the biggest employer in the German renewable energy sector, giving job directly and indirectly to 125,000 people, a study carried out on behalf of the German environment ministry has shown.

The number of people employed in the German renewable energy sector increased 4% on an annual basis to about 382,000 in 2011, the environment ministry said on Monday. Compared with 2004, their number doubled. About 280,000 of all jobs have been created as a result of the German Renewable Energy Act, the study has shown.

About 124,000 people are employed in the German biomass sector and more than 100,000 in wind power.
