Solar jobs in Arizona fall to 8,558 in 2013

Feb 12, 2014 - The number of jobs in the Arizona solar sector declined by 13% year-on-year in 2013 to 8,558, while solar employment is forecast to grow 5.6% in the following 12 months.

According to the Arizona Solar Jobs Census 2013 report from Tuesday by The Solar Foundation (TSF) and BW Research Partnership, employers are “cautiously optimistic about growth prospects” for 2014 and expect to open 500 new solar positions.

Although solar companies employed 1,200 less than in 2012, Arizona was still the number-two state in terms of solar employment for 2013 and accounted for 6% of the total jobs in the US solar industry. California ranked first with 47,223 solar workers.

The organisations behind the Arizona Solar Jobs Census have polled more than 1,300 Arizona employers.

Overall, the solar sector provided employment to 142,700 people in the US at the end of 2013, up 20% year-on-year. In 2014, total solar employment is to expand by another 15.6% or about 22,240 jobs.
