The Bagerhat solar power plant in Bangladesh, with a capacity of 130 MWp, has recently been put into commercial operation and is now the country’s largest such facility.

The news was announced today by Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd (SHE:300274), which supplied its central inverter solutions for the project. The firm’s SG3125HV 1500Vdc system was selected by ABB Ltd (SWX:ABBN) due to its temperature-controlled air cooling, which helps deal with Bangladesh's humid and hot climate.

Local conglomerate Orion Group is the sponsor of the project, which was realised in Khulna.

Bagerhat is now Bangladesh’s largest solar photovoltaic (PV) plant after overtaking the 73-MW Mymensingh solar power facility. It is connected to the 132/33-kV Mongla PGCB Grid Substation through a newly-built 9-km transmission line.
