Indian clothing maker and retailer Dollar Industries Ltd (NSE:DOLLAR) on Wednesday said that its factory in Tirupur, in the state of Tamil Nadu, is now powered by a 4-MW solar facility.

Indway Power Energy Pvt Ltd was in charge of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC).

The solar system will generate 7.5 million kWh a year. It will mainly power the company's spinning unit, while any excess electricity with be directed to Dollar Industries' dyeing unit in Perundurai.

The company has invested INR 180 million (USD 2.5m/EUR 2.1m) in the project -- an amount it expects to be paid back in five years.

"With the current pandemic situation, it is imperative to reduce costs and at the same time also create a clean and eco-friendly manufacturing facility protecting the environment," managing director Vinod Kumar commented.
