Solar Samoa breaks ground on USD-50m solar project at home

Jul 17, 2012 - Samoa-based solar power company Solar Samoa Ltd, a unit of Australian Eco Energy Solutions Pty Ltd, today inaugurated the construction of a USD-50-million (EUR 40.7m) solar power project in Samoa, Salamon Group said today.

Eco Energy Solutions is owned by US renewable energy firm Salamon Group Inc's (PINK:SLMU) Sunlogics Power Fund Management and solar photovoltaic (PV) product developer DayStar Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:DSTI).

The project will include solar systems with total capacity of 4 MW on different locations in Samoa. It will be finished in two years and will supply power to local power producer Electric Power Corp (EPC), local newspaper Samoa Observer reported today, citing the project team. The newspaper added that the project would yield USD 800,000 in savings to EPC a year from diesel costs and will replace some 10% of the current diesel-fired power.
