Spain’s renewables generated 12,665 GWh of electricity in June, marking an increase of 29% year-on-year, according to early estimates released by Spanish power grid operator Red Electrica de Espana (REE).

The share of renewables in the total generation mix dropped to 58.7% in June from 63.0% as estimated in May. With a share of 22.2%, photovoltaic solar power kept its dominant position in the mix for the second consecutive month, leaving behind wind (20.5% share) and nuclear (20.1%).

On June 21, solar photovoltaic plants achieved a daily production record, generating 201 GWh, or 26.8% of the total, REE said.

The share of renewables in the January-June period was 59.8%.

REE’s provisional figures for renewables and selected non-renewable energy technologies are presented in the table below:

National electricity demand declined by 1.6% in June to 19,525 GWh gross. After adjusting for temperature and working hours, national electricity demand increased by 0.9% year-on-year.

In the first six months of 2024, Spain’s demand came at 120,892 GWh, 0.7% more than in the same period of 2023.
