Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) this week launched a call for prequalification of bidders in a 500-MW solar tender.

A prequalification questionnaire was released on Tuesday setting a deadline for submission of statements of qualification (SQQs) of June 24. Clarifications can be sought by the end of May.

The solar tender will select a company to design, build, own, finance, operate and transfer a 500-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant near Al Kharsaa. Kahramaa will buy the output under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The expected commercial operation date (COD) will be in December 2020.

The independent power project (IPP) will be owned by the entity that won the tender, with a stake of at least 40% in the special purpose vehicle (SPV), and strategic national investors (SNIs) in Qatar, with up to 60% shareholding.

The prequalification stage will be followed by a Request For Bid (RFB) stage in which the prequalified applicants will compete.
