Dutch-Norwegian company SolarDuck and Japan's Tokyu Corp (TYO:9005) have completed the installation of an up to 100 kW offshore floating solar photovoltaic (OFPV) power plant in Japan.

Dubbed the first of its kind in the country, the solar plant was built in collaboration with local Kyocera Communication Systems Corp, SolarDuck announced on Thursday.

The solar array is a demonstration project of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Policy Planning Bureau, which seeks to realise the world's most advanced energy generation and transmission from the Tokyo Bay Area.

The renewable output will be used to power Open Street Corp's electric mobility vehicles and an electric boat.

SolarDuck, together with Everblue Technologies Inc, have been working on the OFPV since November 2022. Over fiscal year 2024, the two companies will use OFPV facilities to conduct demonstrations of power generation, power storage in batteries on the ground, and transportation of the storage batteries.
