Solaria's claims are unfounded, Canadian Solar says

In response to the patent infringement lawsuit that was recently filed by Solaria Corporation, Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ) on Tuesday said that the claims of its competitor are “meritless and unfounded.”

As announced a couple of weeks ago, Oakland-based photovoltaic (PV) panels maker Solaria lodged a complaint against Canadian Solar in the Federal District Court for the Northern District of California. The patent that is the subject of the suit covers a process for separating PV strips from solar cells for use in "shingled" modules.

Solaria claims that its rival studied its high-density module (HDM) technology back in 2014, when they were negotiating a licensing deal that never took place, and five years later Canadian Solar started advertising its own HiDM shingled modules for sale in the US.

Canadian Solar said that, working closely with its legal counsel, it will vigorously defend against these claims. It further noted that it earned 95 patents in various countries for its shingled-cell designs and inventions, and is currently awaiting the review of a further 75 patent applications.
