Solarig to install 4.5 MW of solar capacity in Malta

Dec 14, 2012 - Spanish solar power developer Solarig yesterday lauded a concession agreement with the government of Malta for the development of 4.5 MW of photovoltaic (PV) projects.

The company, in consortium with a Maltese company, is to build 45 solar systems on the top of public buildings, covering around 67,000 square metres (721,000 square feet) of area. These buildings include ministries, hospitals, reservoirs and schools. More than EUR 10 million (USD 13m) will be invested in the projects.

At the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Conference in Malta in September, when Solarig received an award letter, the country's minister of resources and rural affairs George Pullicino said the solar installations would be constructed under the government's energy strategy and would help it achieve its goal of sourcing 10% of energy from renewables by 2020.

Solarig also noted that it had opened a control and analysis centre in Malta in July. The centre provides support for all systems managed by the company in different countries.
