SolarReserve opens office in Dubai

Jan 28, 2014 - US solar projects developer SolarReserve LLC said Monday it had established a new office in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a bid to expand its operations in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The new office will for now serve as a hub for the company's development activities in the region, while later it intends to open more locations.

The MENA expansion has been motivated by the regions’ excessive solar resources. SolarReserve is planning to develop both large-scale concentrating solar power (CSP) with energy storage and photovoltaic (PV) projects. "Not only do we offer technology that can generate power on-demand, day and night, but our plants are dry-cooled which is critically important in a region with scarce water resources," noted SolarReserve chief executive Kevin Smith.

The Dubai office will be managed by SolarReserve's head of development Philip Hale, who has been part of the company since 2008.

Last month, the US firm expanded its global business with the addition of an office in Perth, Australia. It intends to develop CSP and PV projects there with a focus on off-grid installations in the mining sector.
