Malaysian clean energy specialist Solarvest Holdings Bhd (KLSE:SLVEST) said that it has won a contract to set up a 14-MWp rooftop solar photovoltaic system at a tyre factory in Malaysia’s state of Perak.

Toyo Tyre Malaysia Sdn Bhd (TTM), a unit of Japanese tyre manufacturer Toyo Tires Corp (TYO:5105), selected Solarvest to provide engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services for the project.

The assignment will entail the installation of solar panels on a 96,000-sq-metre (1.03m sq ft) rooftop area at the main buildings facilities in the town of Kamunting. Once up and running, the solar power system will enable TTM to offset 12,195 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, Solarvest said.

The project follows the Malaysian government’s decision to raise the allowable solar PV capacity under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) and Self-Consumption for Solar PV Installation (SelCo) programmes to 85% from 75% of maximum demand. TTM is one of the first companies to adopt the new capacity limit.

According to Solarvest, TTM’s will be one of the largest rooftop solar PV systems in the state of Perak.
