Woodland Biofuels to pour USD 1.35bn into Louisiana port biofuel hub
Sep 18, 2024 8:54 CESTMar 12, 2014 - Belgian chemicals group Solvay (EBR:SOLB) said Tuesday it had launched in the US a torrefied biomass production that will enable plants to generate clean energy.
The new business will be managed by a joint venture between (JV) Solvay and US firm New Biomass Energy (NBE). Solvay will triple the production of an existing plant of NBE for torrefied biomass to 250,000 tonnes by the end of 2014.
The process of torrefaction modifies the chemical properties of waste wood and biomass so as the biomass produced contains 35% more energy than wood pellets, which offers significant logistical benefits to clients, Solvay said.
