Sonnedix Power Holdings Ltd announced on Friday that it has acquired an 80-MW solar farm in Sicily from Italian renewables developer Blunova SpA as part of their broader deal involving the sale of 250 MW of operational capacity located in southern Italy.

Under that deal, Sonnedix will acquire from Blunova ten solar farms, all contracted under Italy’s Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE) FER 1 auction round.

So far, four plants changed hands, including the latest one of 80 MW. Sonnedix expects to close the agreements for the remaining six during the first half of 2025.

The acquisitions will increase Sonnedix’s operating capacity in Italy to nearly 800 MW, the independent solar power producer said.

Blunova, part of Italian construction company Carlo Maresca, is present in the renewables sector through its 4-GW pipeline under development, which includes photovoltaic, agrivoltaics, onshore wind, offshore wind and storage technologies, according to Blunova’s general managers Dario Barbetta and Emanuele Mainardi.

Said Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix: "Today's announcement is a big achievement in our growth strategy for Italy. By acquiring these plants, we’re on track to double our operating capacity in Italy, as the team focuses on optimizing and converting our portfolio of renewable energy projects. Our deep knowledge of the Italian market and proven track record position us as the ideal owner of these assets, while also aligning with our goal to deliver clean, affordable, and reliable energy to Italian consumers.”
