Germany-based Soventix GmbH announced on Thursday it has installed a 426-kWp off-grid hybrid solar system in the north-eastern Amazon region of Bolivia.

The array supplements an existing diesel-based power generation plant. It was developed in a partnership with local firm SIE SA. The project was awarded in February 2018 in a public tender issued by a large state-owned energy supplier.

Located in El Sena, the solar array broke ground in April 2018. In addition to the photovoltaic (PV) plant, the Soventix-SIE partnership also built a 60-kW/67-kWh lithium battery storage system allowing the diesel generator to be operated at minimum power.

In the medium term, the hybrid system is expected to save about 130,000 litres (34,342 gallons) of diesel per year. The hybrid PV system is expected to supply power to over 2,500 inhabitants, Soventix noted
