Statkraft connects 44.5-MW solar farm to grid in Spain
Sep 19, 2024 15:28 CESTOct 1, 2013 - Spain still ranks third in the European Union (EU) only after Germany and Italy in terms of total cumulative installed photovoltaic (PV) capacity, with 4.2 GW in 2012, according to the 12th edition of the PV Status Report the European Commission (EC) released yesterday.
Most of this capacity, however, was installed in 2008 when the country was the biggest market. In 2012, new system installations stood at only 194 MW following lower feed-in tariffs (FiTs) for new systems and limited annual market to 500 MW. Thus, total capacity in Spain came in at 4.2 GW and electricity generated with PV systems accounted for 2.9% of the Spanish demand in 2012.
By comparison, Germany lead the ranking with an additional 7.6 GW in 2012.
