Spanish producer of high-pressure hydrogen equipment Calvera Hydrogen has developed what is described as the world’s largest hydrogen transport tube trailer to serve oil group Shell's (LON:SHEL) hydrogen refueling stations around the world.

The 45-feet (13.72 metre)-long tube trailer model was developed at Calvera's facilities in Zaragoza for Shell Hydrogen. It can transport 1 tonne of hydrogen on US roads and more than 1.3 tonnes on EU roads, reflecting different road weight regulations, with a working pressure of 517 bar. According to Calvera’s announcement today, this is the highest working pressure tube trailer in the international market.

Calvera said it has been working with Shell for more than two years on the project, which will initially take off in the US and Germany.

The Spanish manufacturer added that under a framework agreement between the companies, new units of the tube trailer model are currently being developed to serve Shell's refueling stations in the US, Europe and the UK.

According to the announcement, the project is approved to comply with current regulations in both the US and Europe.

“This new project furthers our growth and leadership in this rapidly developing global hydrogen supply industry, where Shell Hydrogen is betting on becoming a world leader," said Oliver Bishop, general manager of Shell Hydrogen.
