Spain's Capital Energy taps GES to build 100 MW of wind farms at home

Spanish renewables developer Capital Energy has awarded the construction contract for a pair of 50-MW wind farm projects in Spain’s Aragon region to compatriot GES - Global Energy Services.

The Spanish contractor will be in charge of engineering, supply, construction, commissioning, and restoration associated with the civil and electrical works on the Las Mareas I and Las Mareas II wind projects, Capital Energy said.

GES will be under contract from the first quarter of 2024 until the third quarter of 2025.

Capital Energy plans to invest around EUR 90 million (USD 97.3m) to erect the two wind farms in the Zaragoza town of Mequinenza. It said it expects the Las Mareas pair to be able to generate some 300 GWh of electricity per year.

Germany’s Nordex SE (ETR:NDX1) is on board to supply 18 of its N163/5.X wind turbines for these projects. Spanish company Faramax was awarded the contract to deliver the transformers.
