Spain generated 11,001 GWh of its electricity from clean and renewable sources in July, increasing the green power output by 8.3% year-on-year, Spanish grid operator Red Electrica de Espana (REE) said in its latest estimates report.

The renewable share in Spain’s total power production came at 46.2%, just slightly above the 46% recorded for June.

Power production from solar photovoltaic parks broke historical records, both in terms of output and share in the generation mix, REE said. These power plants produced 4,507 GWh, up by 32.9% on the year, taking an 18.9% share of the July mix.

The wind energy share was 16.5%, with production declining by 13.9% year-on-year.

Spain’s gross demand for electricity dropped by 3.6% year-on-year to an estimated 22,787 GWh in July. Adjusted for working hours and temperatures, demand fell by 1.3%.
