Renewables generated record-breaking 60.3% of Spain’s electricity in November, according to the latest monthly estimates released by Spanish grid operator Red Electrica de Espana (REE).

Wind power alone accounted for 32.6% of the total electricity production in Spain. The country's wind farms generated 7,036 GWh of electricity during November, increasing their output by 5.3% year-on-year.

Precipitation in November helped elevate the share of hydro to 16.5% and increase hydro power production by 171.2% compared to the same period a year ago.

The share of solar photovoltaic power was more modest, representing 9.1% of the total production in November compared to the 12.3% estimated the month earlier.

Overall, Spain’s renewables across all technologies produced 13,004 GWh in November, up by 29.1% year-on-year, according to REE’s early data as available on December 1.

Power production details for a selection of technologies are presented in the table below:

Technology: Estimated production in GWh: y/y change: Share in November:
Wind 7,036 5.3% 32.6%
Hydro 3,558 171.2% 16.5%
Solar PV 1,974 28.1% 9.1%
Solar CSP 119 13.3% 0.6%
Renewable waste 66 -1.8% 0.3%
Other renewables 250 -31.6% 1.2%
Nuclear 3,775 -9.7% 17.5%
Cogeneration 1,019 -29.8% 4.7%
Combined-cycle gas 2,763 -40.9% 12.8%
Coal 228 -28.5% 1.1%

Spain’s gross demand for electricity was estimated at 19,891 GWh in November, up by 3.1% year-on-year. Adjusted for the effects of working hours and temperatures, demand rose by 2.8%.
