Spain's Rolwind gets enviro nod for 200-MW standalone BESS at home Battery energy storage systems (BESS) License: CC0 1.0 Universal (CC0 1.0) Public Domain Dedication.

Spanish renewables company Rolwind has obtained an environmental permit for a 200-MW standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Spain, the company said on Monday, confirming media reports who learned the news from the ministry for the ecological transition.

The ST Palmosilla BESS will have a storage capacity of 885.3 MWh, allowing it to inject power into the transmission grid for four hours.

Rolwind seeks to build the battery array in the town of Tarifa, in Spain’s southwestern province of Cadiz. The system will utilise battery containers based on lithium-ion cells with lithium iron phosphate cathode.

Rolwind has several standalone BESS projects in the works across Spain, including additional 443 MW submitted to the ministry, energy-focused news outlet El Periodico de la Energia reported.
