Spanish train manufacturer Talgo SA (BME:TLGO) on Thursday said that it will have a hydrogen-powered train ready in 2023.

The train will be named Talgo Vittal-One, with One referring to hydrogen’s placement on the periodic table, the company said.

Talgo plans to carry out on-track validation tests in 2021 and start the manufacturing process between 2021 and 2023. The green hydrogen solution that Talgo is developing has been specifically designed for the Vittal platform of commuter and medium distance trains, which the company brings to tenders in Spain and abroad, Talgo explained.

“Green hydrogen is no longer the future, it is the reality,” CEO Jose Maria Oriol commented.
