Colombia's ANLA gets mandate to license renewables starting at 50 MW
Sep 17, 2024 12:44 CESTSpanish renewables developer-operator Zelestra has grid-connected a 108-MWp solar farm in the town of La Gloria, northeastern Colombia, powering up its second such project in the country.
The La Mata solar farm brought an investment of USD 80 million (EUR 74m), as well as a power output matching the annual electricity consumption of more than 106,000 households, Zelestra said on Wednesday.
The connection of La Mata comes shortly after the company, then known as Solarpack, brought online the 144-MWp La Union solar farm in Colombia.
Both La Mata and La Union were awarded 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) in Colombia’s renewable energy auction in October 2021.
Zelestra’s CEO for Latin America, Jose Luis Garcia, said: This milestone is critical for Zelestra as we pursue a very ambitious plan for the region to meet its decarbonization goals. We have been present in Chile and Peru for many years, and now we are consolidating our presence in Colombia, a country where we aim to grow in the coming years.”
