Spanish civil engineering and construction company Obrascon Huarte Lain SA (BME:OHLA) said on Monday that it has been awarded a contract valued at over EUR 45 million (USD 49m) to build, commission and operate a solar farm in the Castile and Leon region of Spain.

The new plant will consist of 160,000 photovoltaic modules and have an installed capacity of 100 MW. It will generate more than 180 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 20,000 households. Additionally, the project is expected to create around 300 jobs during the construction phase, the group known as OHLA said.

The names of the project and the customer were not disclosed.

OHLA secured several renewable energy contracts in Spain over the past 12 months, boasting a combined value of around EUR 250 million and a total installed capacity of 800 MW. The company says its construction portfolio in Spain comes close to 1,800 MW. Globally, its projects add up to 2,300 MW of installed renewable energy capacity.
