Bloomberg to cover needs in continental Europe with solar from EDPR
Sep 03, 2024 15:33 CESTSpanish fuel products transport and storage specialist Exolum has signed two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) to procure solar and wind energy, aiming to reduce the emissions from its operations in Spain.
The company announced the PPAs on Wednesday without naming the counterparties. It said that one of them will enable it to secure 7 GWh of solar power per year from 2025 to 2034. The other is a wind PPA, Exolum’s first for wind energy, and covers the supply of 60 GWh annually from 2026 to 2035.

These two PPAs will help avoid the release of nearly 17,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, according to Exolum.
Exolum says that the energy consumption in Spain is the main source of the group’s emissions. Pursuing carbon neutrality by 2040, the company installed four solar self-consumption systems at its sites in Mora, Barcelona, Algeciras and Huelva, and signed four PPAs so far, including the ones just announced.
Combined, the on-site solar and the PPAs will allow Exolum to cover 63% of its total power consumption in Spain with renewable energy, Exolum said.
Two more solar self-consumption arrays are currently under way to power the Spanish sites. In addition, Exolum has solar farms in the UK to meet some of the electricity needs of its facilities in the British Isles.
