ABP presents plan to turn Port of Barrow into renewables hub
Sep 18, 2024 14:41 CESTAberdeen, Scotland-based Sparrows Group today unveiled a contract to supply 103 cranes for the 714-MW East Anglia One offshore wind farm, which is being developed by ScottishPower Renewables.
Sparrows will design and manufacture the offshore wind turbine cranes at its facilities in Aberdeen for Granada Material Handling Ltd on behalf of ScottishPower Renewables. The latter announced separately today the award of a GBP-12-million (USD 15m/EUR 14m) contract to Rochdale, UK-based Granada Material Handling for the 103 main access platform (MAP) cranes.
Sparrows expects to start production under its biggest renewables contract to date in early 2017 and deliver the final items in the middle of 2018. The cranes will be installed on all of the wind farm's 102 wind turbines and one crane will be used for training purposes.
East Anglia One is scheduled to generate first power in 2019 and become fully-operational by 2020.
"Sparrows is using expertise developed in the oil and gas sector and transferring it to other energy and manufacturing sectors," Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said, adding that the order demonstrates the opportunities that exist for the Scottish supply chain.
