Finnish real estate asset management company Sponda Ltd today announced it will be able to green 100% of electricity consumption in its properties under a newly signed wind power deal with local energy group Helen.

The agreement will enable the construction of the 86-MW Lakiakangas 3 wind farm in Ostrobothnia. From 2022, this park will supply 50% of the wind power used by Sponda to cover electricity consumption. The other 50% come from other Nordic wind farms through guarantees of origin (GOs).

“The Lakiakangas 3 wind farm is a good example of a solution in which customers can buy wind power also in larger shares of the power plant's production. The model is already in use when selling solar power; now we are also bringing it into wind power,” commented Anu-Elina Hintsa, Helen’s Sales and Customer Service head.

The wind farm will have 20 turbines. Work on the foundations started in the summer of 2020 and completion is targeted next year.

Under its sustainability programme, Sponda aims to achieve carbon neutrality for in-use energy consumption by 2030.
