Algerian solar panel maker Systeme Panneaux Sandwichs (SPS) has formed a partnership with UAE mounting system provider Qi-energy to jointly manufacture mounting structures for photovoltaic (PV) systems.

SPS, which produces metal sandwich panels, and Dubai-based mounting system provider Qi-energy have signed a joint venture (JV) agreement, they said last week. Their new product will be made in Algeria and will be offered domestically and on the African market. The mounting systems will be made to comply with international quality and bankability standards.

The JV deal comes in the light of Algeria’s recently announced plan to hold tenders for 4 GW of large-scale solar capacity by 2024 to meet rising demand for electricity and lower its reliance on fossil fuels.

“Our partnership with Qi-energy is the answer to Algeria strategy to implement local content, and at SPS we have chosen to raise the bar by introducing to the Algerian market very high quality solutions for ground mounted, residential and soon for Solar PV for Seawater desalination plants that requires new material,” said Mehdi Bendimerad, CEO of SPS.
