Approval sought for upsized 70-GW renewables hub in Western Australia
Nov 12, 2024 11:23 CESTAussie renewable energy developer Squadron Energy has laid out plans for the construction of a 594-MW wind farm with co-located batteries in New South Wales and released a preliminary project layout for community consultation.
The company owned by iron ore billionaire Andrew Forrest said in a LinkedIn post that development of the project is underway and the developer is currently preparing a Scoping Report that it will later submit to the New South Wales Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI).
Planned to be located 30 km west of Yass, in the state’s in the Southern Tablelands region, the Bookham wind farm will consist of 99 turbines with an expected annual electricity output that will be enough to meet the demand of about 321,000 local homes. The plant will be coupled with a battery energy storage system (BESS), the size of which was not specified.
The project comes with a community sponsorship programme.
At present, Squadron owns 1.1 GW of renewable energy capacity in operation and has a further 900 MW under construction. Its goal is to commission 14 GW of projects by the end of the decade.
