Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTThe Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and the Cabinet of Ministers have okayed a Request for Proposals (RfP) targeting 90 MW of small solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, the Daily News said Thursday.
The 90 schemes, each with a capacity of 1 MW, will be tendered under the second phase of Sri Lanka’s Suryabala Sangramaya programme, or Battle for Solar Energy, aimed at adding 200 MW rooftop solar power capacity by 2020 and 1,000 MW by 2025. The initiative is a collaboration between Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, CEB and Lanca Electricity Company Pvt Ltd (LECO).
Last month, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a USD-50-million (EUR 42.2m) loan to finance rooftop solar power projects in Sri Lanka equivalent to 50 MW of capacity. The island country, which is highly dependent on fossil fuels, in 2016 sourced 67.2% of its power from thermal sources, with hydropower and non-conventional renewables contributing 24.6% and 8.2%, respectively, the ADB said previously.
