SSE Renewables, a unit of UK utility SSE plc (LON:SSE), has installed the first of 28 MW of turbines at its Chaintrix-Bierges and Velye wind farm project site in France's Grand-Est region.

Chaintrix-Bierges and Velye will be equipped with eight Siemens Gamesa SG 3.4-132 wind turbines, and the remaining seven will be installed in the coming weeks, SSE Renewables said on Monday.

Construction of final turbine foundations wrapped up last month.

SSE Renewables is investing over EUR 30 million (USD 33.3m) in this project, which is notable for being its first to be set outside of the company's core markets -- the UK and Ireland.

Siemens Gamesa had Chaintrix-Bierges and Velye inside a 3.9-GW pipeline of onshore wind projects spread around Spain, France, Italy and Greece. The wind turbine maker sold the entire package to SSE Renewables in 2022 to lighten the load as it was digging itself out of a financial hole. One of the terms of the transaction was to use Siemens Gamesa wind turbines for some of the projects.
