Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks Distribution, or SSEN Distribution, announced today the issuing of a Request for Information (RFI) to identify new Flexibility Participants in a selection of island communities in Scotland.

The move is expected to help establish routes to market and inform SSEN Distribution’s future procurement strategy for certain Flexibility Services in this geographical location. The RFI is focused on the following regions: Orkney; Shetland; Outer Hebrides; Mull, Coll, and Tiree; as well as Islay, Jura, and Colonsay.

SSEN said in a statement that it is particularly interested in hearing from owners or operators of generation and energy storage, aggregators managing multiple sites on behalf of several electricity producers, and businesses of all sizes, including industrial and commercial customers.

“Your responses to our Request for Information will help us design future services that will address the specific needs of island communities. This is not a pre-qualification or tender process, rather an opportunity to contribute to the development of a more resilient and sustainable electricity system at a formative stage,” stated Catherine Winning, Flexibility Services Manager at SSEN Distribution.
