Norwegian state-owned energy company Statkraft AS has put into full operation the 79.8-MW Morro do Cruzeiro wind park in Brazil's Bahia state.

The wind park required an investment of BRL 600 million (USD 103.3m/EUR 94.7m) and recently received the final approval by power sector regulator Aneel, Statkraft said on Tuesday.

Located in the municipality of Brotas de Macaubas, Morro do Cruzeiro was inaugurated in August. It features 14 wind turbines capable of generating 386 GWh of wind power per year, enough to meet the demand of more than 190,000 local homes.

Statkraft has been working on several other renewable power projects in Brazil, such as the implementation of 228 MW of solar projects at the same location as the roughly 519-MW Santa Eugenia wind park and the above-mentioned Morro do Cruzeiro plant. The latter's hybridisation project is scheduled for completion by the second half of 2025.

The Norwegian company noted that Morro do Cruzeiro is an extension of the 95.2-MW Brotas de Macaubas Wind Complex. The complex will receive the largest onshore wind turbine produced in Brazil under a partnership with Brazilian electrical equipment manufacturer WEG SA (BVMF:WEGE3).
