Standard Solar, a Brookfield Renewable company, has acquired a 2.61-MW solar project at the Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, from EDF Renewables North America, part of Electricite de France SA (EPA:EDF).

The Lehigh Valley project, which will be equipped with a single-axis tracker system, is expected to generate around 5,224 MWh of energy annually, a statement said on Tuesday.

Once operational, the site will fully power the Murray H Goodman Campus, which houses the majority of the university’s athletic facilities, while offsetting 8% percent of the overall grid electricity consumption of the university.

The project is aligned with the educational institution’s strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.

Standard Solar’s portfolio already has more than 35 MW of solar projects serving educational institutions.
