Norwegian state-owned power company Statkraft AS announced on Thursday that it has connected the 44.5-MW El Rancho solar farm to the grid in the Spanish region of Andalusia.

Situated in Jerez de la Frontera, Cadiz province, El Rancho is expected to generate over 109 GWh and meet the average annual power consumption of 30,000 families.

Statkraft said it invested close to EUR 50 million (USD 55.7m) in this project, building it in a record time of seven months. El Rancho is currently in the final stages of testing and commissioning before moving to the operation and maintenance phase.

The latest project created Statkraft’s ninth solar farm in Andalusia. The company has eight other solar plants, totalling around 400 MW, in operation in Seville and Cadiz. With the acquisition of Enerfin, Statkraft inherited the 54-MW La Herreria and Pasada de Tejeda wind farm complex, which raised its total installed capacity in Andalusia to around 500 MW.
