Statkraft to build 370 MW of wind farms in Sweden

Sep 27, 2012 - Norwegian utility Statkraft AS said Thursday it would build two wind farms in Sweden with a combined capacity of some 370 MW together with Swedish paper and packaging group Svenska Cellulosa AB (STO:SCA B), or SCA.

The Bjorkhojden and Ogonfaegnaden wind farms are expected to generate some 1,090 GWh of electricity a year. Statkraft plans to invest some NOK 5.2 billion (USD 905m/EUR 702m) in the two projects.

The two new wind farms bring to four the total number of projects developed by Statkraft SCA Vind AB, a 60/40 joint venture of Statkraft and SCA.

The new developments will be located in Jamtland and Vasternorrland counties, in mid/northern Sweden. The 270-MW Bjorkhojden wind farm will kick off operations in two stages, in 2014 and 2015, while the 99-MW Ogonfagnaden wind farm is to be commissioned in 2014. The two facilities will feature 123 pieces of 3-MW wind turbines. Construction works will be launched immediately.

The first two wind farms being developed by Statkraft SCA Vind, the 60-MW Stamasen wind farm and the 85-MW Morttjarnberget wind farm, are expected to be completed this autumn and in 2013, respectively.
