Austrian packaging solutions and recycling firm ALPLA has inked two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Norwegian state-owned renewable energy producer Statkraft AS, securing 76 GWh of solar and wind power annually for its sites in Germany.

The PPAs have a ten-year term with the agreed electricity volumes to be supplied between 2024 and 2033, a press release said on Tuesday.

ALPLA will receive electricity from six solar parks, which are located in Bavaria and have a total installed capacity of around 40 MW, and one 16.8-MW wind farm in Schleswig-Holstein, northwestern Germany.

"With the conclusion of the Statkraft PPAs, we are expanding our renewable energy portfolio, which will enable us to cover more than 70% of the energy consumption of our sites in Germany with renewable energies from 2024 onwards and will also contribute to the expansion of renewable energy capacity in Germany", said Georg Pescher, managing director of ALPLA Germany.

The financial details of the contracts were not disclosed.
